Since graduating from Laban in 2012 with a 1st class (Hons) degree in Dance Theatre Joel has performed works across the UK and internationally. He has worked with a range of choreographers and companies including Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal, Ben Wright, and Luca Silvistrini’s Protein. These experiences have helped develop his skills as a performer, and understanding of different dance forms and devising methods. For the last 2 years he have also been creating and performing work in collaboration with a range of composers, sound designers, performers and movement directors. In 2017 he took his work to venues such as Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis Studio, The Place and Tripspace. Joel hopes to continue developing his understanding of the different practices and devising methods used by the practitioners he works with.

As well as performing and choreographing Joel works as a teacher for the TrinityLaban education outreach program, at secondary schools across southeast London. He has also recently been working as a guest teacher and choreographer at the University of Cumbria, Carlisle.

In 2016 Joel was awarded a distinction in Performance Design and Practice (Diploma) at University of the Arts London. He is interested in finding ways of incorporating design into his work, and exploring how different settings and lighting states can inform and change a performance. He is particularly interested in how this applies to site-specific works. Joel has recently collaborated with artist Candida Powell-Williams, set designer Dan Potra and lighting designer Joshua Gadsby on a range of projects, both in theatres and more unconventional spaces.
